Health Care for Commissioners
Commissioners voted to grant themselves healthcare for life - not in an open meeting, but behind closed doors. No public notice or input. 100% self-serving. No more back-room deals. I will vote to overturn this. I will also vote for Term Limits and bring Transparency.
Overdevelopment and Traffic
Look around, Kent Island is choking from traffic. I will put a complete freeze on overdevelopment on Kent Island and work with the State to try and find real solutions to the traffic. That's why I'm running for real fixes, not just talk.
Property Rights
Property rights are American. What do property rights mean to you? The Commissioners are trying to land grab and steal the property at the narrows under eminent domain. Lets stop the overreach.
Taxes
Our County Commissioner "Rubber Stamp State Reassessments", which raises your property tax burden, I will not vote on "State Reassessment", without full research first. I will work for better property tax breaks for Seniors and Veterans.
Transparency
"I'm running because our county government hides too much - decisions - perks for themselves, etc. No more backroom deals." I will bring transparency. You deserve it.
Budget Accountability
Queen Anne's County Budget Reality Check Every year the county adopts a "conservative" budget, yet they consistently end each year with millions of dollars in surplus. Here are the actual numbers:
FY2020: Budgeted $144.2M - $11.4M surplus
FY2021: Budgeted $143.8M - $12M surplus
FY2022: Budgeted $154.4M - $11.4M surplus
FY2023: Budgeted $167.3M - $12.6M surplus
FY2024: Budgeted $183.6M - $14.2M surplus
FY2025: Budgeted $191.1M - $5.2M surplus
FY2026: Budgeted $209.1M - $6.1M surplus
FY2027: Budgeted $230.9M - $???? surplus
That's over $72.5 million in surpluses in just 6 years.
On this point, only 2 things can be true: Either the county is overtaxing its citizen's, or county leadership is incompetent at putting together an accurate budget.
There is no third option. You can't consistently miss your revenue projections this much, year after year, without one of those 2 things being the case.
Which one is it?
Transfer Stations
If I'm elected one of the things I'd like to do is take a look at the County transfer stations.
A book of 15 trash disposal tickets for the Queen Anne's County Transfer Station costs $60, wow.
I'm going to propose that the transfer stations open Tuesday through Saturday 8 - 4. And I'd like to see the tickets go down to at least $3 a ticket. Instead of 4 so that would be $45.00 dollars for 15 instead of $60.00.
"If elected Queen Anne's County Commissioner, I'll make dump trips completely free for our seniors 62 and older.
Our transfer stations currently charge $60.00 dollars for 15 tickets - $4 dollars each. With today's tough economy, many seniors on fixed incomes are already struggling. Queen Anne's County is doing well, they gave themselves health care for life after two terms of part-time work and we should be helping our seniors, not nickel-and-diming them for basic services.
Making disposal free for seniors for seniors is the right thing to do. It shows respect for those who built our county, keeps our roads cleaner by reducing illegal dumping, and proves we care about our community.
Vote for me in the June 23rd primary - I'll fight to give our seniors the break they deserve."
Term Limits
I support Term Limits for Queen Anne's County Commissioners - They should only serve no more than two terms. Some of the current Commissioners have been there 12 or more years. Too long in power kills integrity. Staying forever breeds entitlement, cozy deals, zero accountability. Fresh blood brings honesty, new eyes, real checks, no one is irreplaceable.
